Rey Dau is the first dragon monster you'll encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. This creature wields the lightning element, making it immune to lightning-based attacks. However, it's particularly vulnerable to water and ice. The most effective place to strike is its head, which has a 4-star weakness. Another viable target is its wings, with a 3-star weakness.
Avoid attacking its torso, as it's quite resilient. If hitting the head is challenging, target the tail instead. The legs are also not ideal due to their strong protection. For status ailments, you can use everything except Stun and Paralysis, as the dragon's lightning element makes these ineffective.
Use a Flash Pod
A key strategy to swiftly take down Rey Dau is to deploy a Flash Pod. This tool will temporarily stun the monster, providing you with an opportunity to land critical hits. When Rey Dau unleashes its lightning attack, aim for its horns, which will be glowing bright red in Focus Mode, to inflict significant damage.
Wear Element-Resistant Gear
To survive the battle, equip gear that enhances your resistance to elements. The Hope Armor set is highly recommended due to its Divine Blessing skill, which reduces damage taken. It also offers resistance to Lightning and Fire, making it perfect for this fight. Additionally, consider consuming a meal that boosts your elemental resistance.
If you find dodging attacks difficult, stay close to Rey Dau's legs. The monster primarily attacks areas in front and behind it, so positioning yourself near its legs minimizes your chances of getting hit.
Pay Attention to the Environment
Rey Dau will often fly from one location to another during the fight. In the open plains, you can use Vine Traps found on a lone tree to stun the monster temporarily. However, be cautious when the dragon returns to its nest, as it may follow up with a lightning attack that can stun you. Avoid rushing in this area to prevent being zapped.

How to Capture Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds
In addition to fighting Rey Dau to the death, you can earn rewards by capturing it in Monster Hunter Wilds. To do this, weaken the dragon until it's nearly defeated. Look for the skull icon near the monster's icon on the mini-map, signaling it's time to set a trap.
Since Rey Dau is a lightning dragon, Shock Traps won't work. Instead, use a Pitfall Trap for a successful capture. Follow up quickly with a Tranquilizer to prevent the creature from escaping. You have only a brief window to act, so be prepared.
