Ponos's The Battle Cats Celebrates 12 Years with a Sengoku-Era Ad Campaign
Twelve years strong! The Battle Cats, a mobile tower defense game featuring an eclectic cast of ninja cats, fish cats, and even a "Gross Cat," is celebrating its anniversary with a new ad campaign. This quirky cat-themed game has endured in a competitive market, and developer Ponos is marking the occasion with a unique Sengoku period-themed advertisement.
The new commercials blend the historical setting of the Sengoku era with the game's signature humor and iconic cat food cans. The result, a partnership with R/GA, is a cinematic campaign titled "The Way of the Cat," designed to attract both veteran and new players. The ads cleverly juxtapose serious artistic elements with the game's playful absurdity, leaving viewers with a desire to "be the cat, become the cat."
"As we celebrate 12 years of The Battle Cats, we’re excited to challenge perceptions and showcase the game’s strategic depth," says Ponos' COO and Managing Director Seiichiro Sano. "This collaboration with R/GA honors our heritage while inviting new players to experience the thrill of tactical gameplay in a fresh way."
