Fresh calls for a new Star Wars Battlefront installment have gained momentum, thanks to an actor from the critically acclaimed series Andor.
Over the past month, fans have rushed back to 2017's Star Wars Battlefront 2, propelling the game to its highest Steam player count in years—despite developer DICE having ended support long ago.
Now, Muhannad Ben Amor, who portrays the courageous Wilmon Paak in Andor, has amplified the call for a full-fledged sequel through social media.
"Star Wars needs to deliver Battlefront 3 ASAP," Amor shared on Instagram (via Comicbook), noting he had logged a remarkable 469 hours in Battlefront 2. That's impressive, but as the old saying goes—don’t let it go to your head.
"I grew up with Battlefront 2—been a veteran since day one," Amor added. "Here's hoping we get Battlefront 3."
The recent surge in Star Wars Battlefront 2's popularity can be linked to Andor's climactic second season, along with various franchise events tied to the annual May the 4th celebrations.
After maintaining an average of around 2,000 concurrent players on Steam for years, the game's figures have steadily risen over recent weeks and are now approaching its all-time peak of 10,000 concurrent players.
But does this momentum make a Star Wars Battlefront 3 more probable? For the time being, DICE is fully invested in developing its next major Battlefield title and ensuring it launches in top form. An official reveal for the still-unnamed Battlefield game, which is currently undergoing player testing, is slated for this summer.
DICE may still feel cautious about revisiting the franchise after Battlefront 2's launch was overshadowed by a major loot box controversy. Over time, however, public opinion of the game has improved significantly. And although EA, DICE’s parent company, no longer holds exclusive rights to Star Wars games, Respawn continues to develop titles set in that distant galaxy—including a third entry in the Star Wars Jedi series.
