If you're in the market for a high-end gaming PC, you know they come with hefty price tags. However, snagging a great deal can save you hundreds of dollars. Right now, Dell is slashing prices on the Alienware Aurora R16, equipped with a GeForce RTX 4090, down to just $2,899.99 after a whopping $1,000 instant discount. This is the lowest I've seen an RTX 4090 PC go for in months. With standalone RTX 4090 graphics cards creeping back up in price, now hovering around $2,000 from reputable sellers, building your own PC might not be as cost-effective as you'd think. Plus, with a prebuilt PC, you get the added benefit of a comprehensive warranty.

$2,899.99 at Alienware
This Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC is packed with top-tier components: an Intel Core i9-14900KF CPU, a GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 32GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 2TB NVMe SSD. The 14th gen Intel Core i9-14900KF stands as the pinnacle of Intel gaming CPUs, doubling as a powerhouse for productivity tasks. Known for running hot, it's fortunately paired with a robust 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler. The system is powered by a reliable 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.
The RTX 4090 remains the undisputed champion of GPUs. No other card, be it from NVIDIA or AMD, comes close to its performance. As Chris Coke noted in his review, "The RTX 4090 may be huge and expensive, but holy smokes if it doesn’t blow the competition out of the water... Until the rest of the pack can catch up, between its impressive hardware specs and its DLSS 3 AI wizardry, even the $1,599 price doesn’t seem unreasonable for the unrivaled frame rates that this card can crank out." With this setup, you're set to run any game at 4K with ultra settings and ray tracing enabled, achieving high framerates even with the latest, most demanding titles like Black Myth: Wukong or Warhammer Space Marine 2. The 4090 also excels in AI tasks, thanks to its 24GB of GDDR6X VRAM.
A Note on RTX 5000 Series GPUs
NVIDIA's next generation of GPUs, the RTX 5000 series, is slated for release starting late January. While the RTX 5090 promises even greater power, it comes with a steep price tag of $2,000 for the Founder's Edition at launch, and availability might be limited. The RTX 5080, launching at $999, also faces potential availability issues. We'll soon benchmark these cards, but note they'll come with less VRAM than the 4090 (16GB vs 24GB), likely not dethroning the 4090 as the top-performing consumer card.
A Note on Alienware's Newest "R16" Desktop Chassis
The R16 is Alienware's latest 2024 desktop PC design, boasting a 40% smaller footprint compared to its predecessors. Its airflow is optimized with air drawn in through side intake vents over the GPU area and a 120mm front fan, exhausting through a 120mm rear fan and two 120mm top fans. The 240mm radiator for the all-in-one liquid cooling system is mounted to these top fans. While some configurations omit liquid cooling, we focus on those that include it due to the superior performance over Alienware's standard air cooling. Dell unveiled a new Area 51 chassis at CES 2025, but it closely resembles the R16 in both appearance and design.
