Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025
Following the emergence of Switch 2 images from CES 2025, Nintendo issued an unusual statement. A company representative confirmed that Nintendo did not officially participate in CES 2025, therefore any Switch 2 imagery originating from the event is unofficial. This marks a rare public response from Nintendo regarding product leaks.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025, generating significant online buzz.
Nintendo's statement, made in response to an inquiry from the Sankei Shimbun, simply declared the Genki replica "not official." The company emphasized its absence from CES 2025, further solidifying the unofficial nature of the leaked images and videos.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo didn't comment on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most notable difference from the original Switch is the addition of a new button below the right Joy-Con's home button, labeled "C," with an unknown function. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to clarify the "C" button's purpose, added that the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will reportedly use magnetic attachment instead of sliding rails and function as mouse controls – claims corroborated by other sources.
Nintendo's Timeline and Pricing
Nintendo previously indicated a Switch 2 reveal within its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, the official unveiling is still anticipated. A retail launch is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
